This position oversees daily accounting operations, monthly financial reporting, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) while supporting the construction, maintenance, and storage of modular buildings. The role requires expertise in construction accounting, including progress billing, job costing, inventory tracking, and compliance with industry-specific financial requirements. It also oversees accounts receivable and accounts payable functions to ensure accurate financial records, timely transaction processing, and effective collaboration with team members and organizational leadership in support of sound financial reporting and project controls.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review, and post journal entries, including consolidation and elimination entries, in accordance with established accounting procedures
- Support the monthly consolidation process by preparing and reviewing consolidated financial information and ensuring the accurate recording of intercompany and elimination entries.
- Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts, identify discrepancies, and prepare adjusting entries as necessary.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and verify all reconciling items, including outstanding checks and bank charges.
- Evaluate current inventory management tools and processes and assess system options that reduce reliance on manual spreadsheets while improving inventory accuracy, visibility, and scalability.
- Reconcile inventory balances to the general ledger to ensure that physical inventory values align with financial records.
- Provide oversight of accounts receivable and accounts payable functions to ensure the accurate and timely processing of customer invoicing, including progress billings, and vendor payments.
- Evaluate and standardize current customer invoice processes to ensure accuracy, increase efficiency, and verify that invoices are recorded appropriately in the general ledger.
- Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting to reflect the financial status of active projects, including the calculation of overbilling and underbilling to support accurate revenue recognition under the percentage-of-completion method.
- Track project-specific expenses to compare actual costs against estimated budgets and support effective job costing.
- Work with department heads to analyze historical financial data and forecast future revenue and expenses.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, analyze financial results, and provide management with commentary regarding account fluctuations and budget variances.
